Web Analytics

Please contact us at support@expert.services to request the retrieval of website analytics.

What does each statistic mean?

Unique Visitors

'Unique Visitors' refers to how many distinct individuals have visited your website. If the visitor makes several visits during this period it is counted only once. Visitors are tracked by their IP address, so if multiple users are accessing your site from the same IP (such as an office or home network), they will be counted as a single Unique Visitor.

Number of Visits

'Number of Visits' refers to the amount of visits made to your site. A single visit can contain multiple screen or page views, events and social interactions. A visit has a time-based expiration - so if a Unique Visitor returns to the site after 1 hour of inactivity then this will count as a new visit.

Pages

‘Pages’ refers to the number of times a page in the site is viewed. Images are not counted as pages.

Hits

‘Hits’ refers to the number of times a page, image or file is viewed or downloaded.

Bandwidth

‘Bandwidth’ refers to the amount of data that visitors have downloaded from your site, including all pages, images and files.

Visitors domains/countries

‘Visitors domains/countries’ identifies the geographical area in which your site visitors are located in.

Hosts

‘Hosts’ identifies where your visitors are coming from (based on their computer's IP address) and the number of visitors from each host. This is useful for direct business-to-business (B2B) targeting as it shows the organisations that already have an interest in your organisation. Please note that some organisations block their IP addresses, so there may be several unresolved or unidentifiable statistics included.

Robots/Spiders Visitors

Robots and Spiders (a.k.a. crawlers) are programs that traverse the Web automatically. Search engines use them to index web content. The more crawlers crawling through your site the better, as it means that search engines are taking a greater interest in your content which should in turn increase your search engine ranking. It's important to keep your site updated and optimised according to the latest search engine trends.

Visits Duration

'Visits Duration' refers to how long visitors stay on your site. Use these statistics to watch trends and set targets around specific promotions or overall e-marketing strategy.

File Type

'File Type' refers to the types of files that are downloaded. These statistics provide an insight into the most popular types of files on your website and may help you determine whether you need to change the file type to something more accessible.

Pages-URL

‘Pages-URL’ shows you a list of pages that have been visited the most.

Operating Systems

‘Operating Systems’ shows you which operating system visitors are using when visiting your site.

Browsers

‘Browsers’ shows you which web browser visitors are using when visiting your site.

Connect to Site From

This shows you how visitors are getting to your website.

  • Direct Address/Bookmark/Link in email: Refers to visitors who have typed your website address directly into the address bar, or already have your site bookmarked.
  • Links from an External Page: Refers to visitors who have come to your site via clicking on a link on an external web page (excluding search engines). Building up your backlinks is an important aspect of optimising this.
  • Links from an Internet Search Engine: Refers to visitors who have come to your site via clicking on a link that appears in search engine results.
  • Unknown origin: Refers to when the origin is unidentifiable and is typically due to a visitor’s browser settings.

Search Keywords

Shows you which words people are searching on in search engines to find you. The statistics provide valuable information on how to optimise your pages by including keywords to your content when relevant.

HTTP Status Codes

An HTTP status code signals an error, or something that hasn’t worked correctly in your site when requested by site visitors. For example, a 404 code means that the page a visitor is trying to visit could not be found. The status codes that hold relevance are the 404 and 302 (Moved Temporarily). These mean that the visitor has tried to access a file or page without success because the file or page is not linked properly.
